Tsalapatis Winery
Andreas Tsalapatis has been running the Tsalapatis Winery for over 20 years now, managing to bring production to about 100000 bottles annually. The winery, which is located in Polemi, produces robust Xynisteri wines, but also Sauvignon Blanc, Mataro, Lefkada, and Shiraz, among other varieties.
The Wines of Tsalapatis Winery
Famous for their white Xynisteri, a wine with good acidity, floral aromas, and a solemn touch of grassy bitterness, the Tsalapatis Winery is highly recommended for wine enthusiasts visiting Paphos. They are also known for Melapsopodi, Sauvignon Blanc, a wine they pioneered, which pairs well with fish and seafood due to its fresh citrus aromas.
Their Rigas, a blend of Mataro and Lefkada grapes, is a vibrant crimson wine with mulberry, dry raisins, and blueberry aromas. It’s a robust wine, best paired with red grilled meats or stews.
If you like reds, you will also love the deep purple of Tsalapatis Winery’s Syrah, a robust wine (14%) with notes of crushed black cherries, brambleberries, and elderberry. It pairs well with pork and lamb.
The Tsalapatis Winery is one of the most underrated Paphos wineries, perhaps because the owner doesn’t bother much with marketing. But if you call 70 006 664 or 99 624 929 on mobile for appointments when you visit Paphos, Andreas will be there to give you a tour and to offer you a tasting in the wine cave. You can try the Rigas “king of the wines” red, the Xynisteri, and the Sauvignon Blanc and buy your favorite straight from the producer.
The Tsalapatis Winery has won numerous awards, the most recent at the 10th Cyprus wine competition, where it received the Silver Award for its Rigena Xynisteri 2016 White.
