The Ocean Aquarium is an exotic destination where adults and children alike can observe a variety of animals in a fascinating natural setting.
Protaras Ocean Aquarium is a research facility caring for over 1000 marine species. There’s a special underwater display themed Atlantis showing the life under the sea in the Mediterranean, but there are also tanks showing the fauna of the world oceans and freshwater habitats, like emperor angelfish native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans or jaguar cichlids from freshwater habitats in Central America.
The Penguin House with South American Humboldt penguins is one of the most fascinating attractions of the aquarium. An outdoor swamp with Nile Crocodiles is another area that will surprise and captivate your attention.
Other animals you can see at the Protaras Ocean Aquarium are North American racoons, Callithrix monkeys, Quarrion cockatoos, Budgerigar parakeets, Blue-and-Yellow Macaws, and laughing doves.
There’s also a wonderfully landscaped tropical garden, which is a favourite venue for weddings in Cyprus. The Ocean Aquarium is available as a party venue for other events, including kids’ birthday parties.

Medusa Cruises offers a variety of boat trips and tours. They do, however, have a daily boat tour in the summer leaving at 10:45 a.m. from the Pernera Fishing Shelter in the Protaras Harbour. Besides the scheduled daily trips, they also offer sunset cruises, fishing trips, and private charters for events like hen or stag parties, weddings, birthdays, and other happy occasions.
Captain Jack is very friendly and accommodating – especially kind with the younger passengers who will have a great time sailing with Medusa Cruises. The boat takes travellers to a blue lagoon with crystal waters for swimming and snorkelling. Fantastic views of the coast during the roundtrip, which takes about three hours.
You can order lunch when you book the trip and enjoy it on the boat. Boat tours without lunch are half price. Drinks and refreshments are available too.

One of the most fascinating things to see when you vacation in Protaras, and a short drive from Leonardo Crystal Cove Hotel & Spa by the Sea, the Sculpture Park in Ayia Napa is a premiere in the Famagusta Free Province. It hosts works by artists participating in the Ayia Napa Municipality International Sculpture Symposium meetups between 2014-2017 – both Cypriot and international talent.
Works by Mischa Pertsev, Lorena Olivares, Roland Hoft, Alexey Kanis, Pedro Jordan, Cedric Hennion, Antonella Tiozzo, Vincent Beaufils-Hourdigas, and many others grace an area of about 20000 m2 at the Cavo Greco-Kryo Nero junction by the sea. It’s free to visit and quite a unique experience, considering its natural setting and the way art and flora harmonise under the sparkling blue skies. The park stays open year-round, 24/7.
Next to it, you’ll find the Ayia Napa Cactus Park – another must-see attraction in the region. Do consider visiting them both in the same day. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared with water, sunscreen, and food, as there are no facilities at the sites.

Dherynia is a charming village in the Famagusta district of Cyprus. It is well worth a day trip, considering that it boasts many attractions, including an outdoor folk-art museum at the heart of the settlement – at Demetri Liberti 2. The Deryneia Folkloric Museum, in a house opposite the Open Air Traditional Folk Art Museum, documents aspects of lifestyle in an old traditional residence.
There are several charming churches around the village, including the Church of Agios Georgios, which dates from the 17th century, the Chapel of Agia Marina from the 12th century, the old Agios Georgios Church from the 15th century in the central square, and Church of the Birth of the Theotokos from the 15th century – known for its stunning iconostasis from 1911.
The Cultural Centre of Occupied Famagusta is another must-see landmark in Dherynia. It hosts all kinds of events, including exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and performances. Visitors can borrow binoculars to observe the side of Famagusta over the border in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Dherynia is famous as a producer of strawberries and potatoes. They even hold a strawberry festival every two years. If you don’t happen in the village when strawberries are in season, you can always enjoy strawberry juice, jam, liquor, candy, and other treats made with the fragrant fruits.
When you stay at Leonardo Crystal Cove & Spa by the Sea, Dherynia is just 25 minutes away by car.
